The Conference is the last published novel in the series of "The Mysteries of Pievasciata", and this time will see Don Virgilio P., facing a long journey to an ancient English castle. The priest is also parish priest of the church of San Giovanni Battista in Pievasciata (Si), fortified parish church of the year 1000. In the story of this priest are intertwined those of other characters, especially female: Sister Constance, the faithful Perpetua, her friend Julia, Marshal Severi. Don Virgilio P. is a small country priest, shy, curious and haughty. Philosopher, agronomist, alchemist, astronomer and veterinarian; always around with the bike, up and down the countryside of Siena, accompanied by the faithful white dog: here is the figure of Don Virgilio P. da Pievasciata.
The priest moves with particular ease between the puzzles of the human soul; between the crimes of real life, as well as among the mysteries of the unknown. Figure not as small as the man, faces with discretion on the scenes of crimes and mysteries, often, but not always, set in the Sienese countryside. Behind the anonymous appearance hides one of the sharpest minds that has ever crossed those places. For years Don Virgilio listened, in the secret of the confessional, to the errors and horrors of men, thus learning to untie the most difficult knots.
